Why this matters?

In a global economy where Canadians represent less than 1% of the total population, the core skill set required to succeed will be to be able to work with, sell to and understand others from around the world. Tomorrow's world will be shaped by fast growing economies in Africa, Asia and beyond. Not everyone can afford to get out to see these places first hand, so let’s bring this world to them and in so doing break down the barriers to engagement caused by superficial differences and old perceptions.

Inspired by Anthony Bourdain and his focus on people and conversations, Their World, Our Future focuses on the people driving change in places we don't commonly equate with innovation and technology. Envisioned as an 8 part series of 15-20 minute shows, Their World, Our Future seeks to show its audience new perspectives about these "unconventional" innovation economies, and in so doing, help catalyze a next generation of curious Canadians.

Where will we go after Addis Ababa? Jakarta, Manila, Accra, Santiago, Cartagena, Tunis and Bucharest.

About Dan Herman

I'm a Toronto-based tech entrepreneur and policy wonk. I'm currently the co-founder of an early stage technology startup, advisor to government agencies on innovation and growth, and, most importantly, father to two spectacular young boys.

I've held executive roles in both the public and private sector, including having been the head of strategy for Innovation Canada, the head of innovation policy for the Department of Innovation, Science and Economic Development (Canada) and the co-founder of the Centre for Digital Entrepreneurship and Economic Performance. Along the way I picked up a PhD focused on the role of government in innovation, and traveled through 60+ countries in Africa, Asia and the Middle East, where I perfected the art of negotiation with border guards in foreign languages.
